In celebration of the endorsment given by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to the Kids Save Lives (KSL) programme and quick approach of the European Restart a Heart Day, the city begins a week of intensive efforts to bring awareness to the subject of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The main focus this year will be educating schoolaged children.

Continuing with the celebration of the European Restart a Heart Day, the city of Trikala takes part in a paneuropean effort to break the Guinness Record of number of people learning CPR simultaneously.

On the final day of the week, celebrating the actual European Restart a Heart Day a massive event took place, under the guidance of Dr Eleni Polyzou, MD., assisted by the Hellenic Society of Emergency Prehospital Care (HSEPC), the University of Thessaly Department of Physical Education and Sport Science, the Hellenic Red Cross, the Hellenic National Centre for Emergency Assistance (HNCEA), the nursing staff of the Trikala General Hospital, the Larissa Medical Association, the medical students of University of Thessaly (HELMSIC), the General Hospital of Volos, the volunteers and the Municipal Primary and Secondary Education Board. All worked together to teach a total of 630 students of primary, middle and high school ages how to perform first aid. The curriculum also included how to find and safely employ the Automatic External Defibrillators (AED). The final result of the week that passed was 1000 students of elementary, middle, high school and some UTH students were taught the basics and how to perform CPR and the main locations they can find AEDs in the week that passed.
