KIDS SAVE LIVES

2015 - Ongoing

"Kids Save Lives" is an educational project, approved by the Ministry of Education (XXX) aiming to support the incorporation of CPR and of other first aid as part of the mandatory curriculum in the Greek primary school system. Moreover, to prepare appropriate educational materials and to familiarize the general public on the importance of being able to perform first aid and contribute to the development of follow up communication actions. The main research team consists of MD E. Polyzou, Professor N. Diggelidis and Associate Professor C. Karatzaferi.

Key findings so far:

- School teachers can be trained to provide CPR training to schoolchildren

- just one 3-hour CPR training lesson taught by the primary school teachers to their students, aged 11 to 12-years (n = 106), imparted new knowledge, enhanced the children's belief in their own ability to perform CPR and improved their attitudes towards learning CPR.

Such and other results demonstrate that the education of school children in CPR can be implemented within the school setting by the existing teaching staff and as part of the continuing educational process.

All the workshop taught are structured following the European Union's Protocols for CPR. The video also contains a few words by both Dr Digelidis and Dr Polyzou on the importance of school children learning CPR, as they are at the perfect age for retaining the lessons, as well as the perfect age for them to cultivate a sense of willingness to help.
