MUSCLE-FUN PROJECT
MECHANISMS OF MUSCLE FUNCTION: FATIGUE AND OXIDATIVE STRESS

2011 - 2015

Muscle-Fun%20Project_edited.jpg

The aim of this project was to discover the important factors and mechanisms that can affect the functionality of the uremic skeletal muscle and its direct or indirect implications in the extreme fatigue and weakness experienced by those suffering from chronic renal failure.

Through the implementation of this project our faculty has carried out:

  • The support of two PhD theses, Dr. Mitrou Georgia and Dr. Poulianiti Konstantina.

  • The publication of two free to access e-books, the first being “Muscle fatigue and muscle weakness: what we know and what we wish we did”, by Karatzaferi C. and Chase B.P. (2013), and the second being “Manual for the physical assessment of athletes” by Karatzaferi C., et al. (2015).

  • A large number of peer-reviewed articles.
